Awareness of Relevant Legal and Ethical
Issues (CCC#8)
There are a number of legal and ethical issues that arise
in the everyday use of technology. For example, clinicians should be
well-informed about copyright laws and how they apply to their use of
digital resources as well as the purchase and installation of software. Many
laws and regulations apply to the availability of assistive technology for
clients, and competent clinicians are knowledgeable enough to serve as
advocates when necessary. Clinicians should be aware of best practices when
it comes to maintaining confidentiality and security of clinical data and
client files in any medium.
